Jelly Roll Rug

To be done BEFORE first class:

-All jelly roll strips must be joined together at a 45 degree angle (just like when you make binding for a quilt) in one continuous strip, clipped and pressed at seams.  As to the layout of strips and order of sewing, that is a personal preference. Typically if you just sew them together in the order they are rolled up in the jelly roll, it comes out very nicely!  *** Do NOT roll this up, merely fold back and forth for feeding purposes
**
You can choose to make a half-size rug too!  One jelly roll, divided into 20 strips each and you can make two rugs out of one jelly roll if you prefer!

-If purchasing batting, you must precut into 2 ½” strips (do not join, not necessary)

-Preload 5 bobbins with your thread, you may need more but this will get you ready to sew without stopping to wind bobbins.  This pattern goes through a LOT of thread.

-Have a fresh 90/14 needle in your machine!  A typical 80/12 needle will not be able to punch through the thickness and can bend, break and possibly damage your machine in the process!

Supplies

- Pattern

- 1 Jelly Roll
- 10-12 Wonder clips
- 50 yd roll of Bosal precut batting strips (or two 25 yd rolls) ~ OR~ 1 ½ yds thin batting that measures 96” wide cut into 2 ½” strips
- Large spool of coordinated thread (1,200 yard size spool) that matches your fabric
- 90/14 Jeans needle

**Your machine has to be able to do a minimum 5.0 wide zig zag stitch.
** You will need a surface large enough to support your rug at the level of the needle – either the extended table that came with your machine or boxes that are the same level as the sewing surface of your machine.
